Marmaris
Not so long ago, Marmaris was an insignificant fishing village konwn and
visited only by seafarers cruising the coasts of the Mediterranean.
Marmaris’ history stretches as far back as 3400 B.C. The first settlers
to this region were named the Caria. Losing nothing in its natural
apperance, today Marmaris has
grown into a touristic paradise, with its center, suburbs and
surroundings, the resort is literally alive 24 hours of the day. Being one
of the most important Yachting centers in the Mediterranean, Marmaris is
the perfect embarking point for nature related activities and excursions.
A contrast of life and wild intertaining nights peaceful sublime days
spent in beautiful isolated coves. Marmaris presents is back to the pine
forested hills honoured by Heredotus himself and is also known as the

Remnants can be found of the city of Physkos, thre first settlement of
Marmaris, in the vicinity of Asartepe.Accoding to Heredotus records,
the name originated from Marmarissos.
Correspondingly named Mermeris from the records of the famous Turkish
sailor Piri Reis, known to have derived from the marble furnaces of
Bozburun. Also Evlita Celebi’s famous book of travels gives an account
of Süleyman the Magnificents’ voyage to Rhodes when the Sultan found
the castle to be too small and ordered his architct to enlargen it before
he returned from his journey. Following his arrival the Sultan Discovered
the newly expanded castle still unsatisfactory in size. Upon his anger,
the Sultan Ordered his men to “mimarý” as literally meaning “hang
the architect”. This form of speech subsequently originated to what is
now known today as Marmaris. Renowned for its natural and historical
wonders, Marmaris is the places to experience to joys of shopping centers,
bazaars and markets, arts and crafts and Mediterranean neon nights. A sea
that posses the most beautiful tones of blue whit an abundance of flower
covered bays. A city where the sun never seems to lose its smile...
